Technical Account Manager Intern

Location: Madrid, Spain, Onsite

Team: Publisher Success

About Refinery89

Refinery89 is a Dutch AdTech company headquartered in Madrid, working with premium publishers worldwide to optimize programmatic advertising performance. Through advanced, data driven technology, Refinery89 helps publishers increase revenue, improve efficiency, and gain greater transparency across their monetization stack.

The company operates with an international, highly specialized team focused on delivering measurable results, operational excellence, and long term partnerships in an evolving digital advertising ecosystem.

About the Role

As a Technical Account Manager Intern, you will join our Publisher Success team and learn the craft of keeping publishers healthy and well supported. In Technical Account Management, we're the handymen of the operation: hands on, active, and always willing to dig in, so this role is built for a "doer" who wants to learn by doing.

You won't need any AdTech background to start. Through structured onboarding, you'll learn to monitor a small set of accounts, investigate technical issues, read the numbers that matter, and communicate clearly with publishers in English, growing over time toward owning accounts of your own.

What we're looking for is someone with technical curiosity, strong problem solving instincts, and the drive to learn, not a CV full of certifications or years of experience.

Key Responsibilities

Account Monitoring & Health Checks

  • Learn to run basic health checks on publishers' websites using browser tools.

  • Watch a small set of assigned accounts and flag anything that looks off.

  • Investigate basic website and advertising related issues before escalating them to the team.

Reading the Numbers

  • Learn to read core metrics such as fill rate, CPM, and RPM, and spot when a site needs attention.

  • Escalate issues to the team rather than deciding alone.

Communication & Hand Offs

  • Write clean, clear hand offs including the page link, screenshot, and a plain description of what you see.

  • Keep publishers updated clearly in English, with support on more complex conversations.

Learning & Growth

  • Steadily build your knowledge of the AdTech stack, including Prebid, Google Ad Manager, SSPs, browser developer tools, and reporting through structured onboarding.

  • Develop your ability to diagnose technical issues across publisher websites.

  • Grow toward owning accounts over time.

Must Have Skills & Experience

  • Fluent English.

  • A genuine eagerness to learn.

  • Strong technical curiosity and problem solving skills.

  • Directness and honesty, including being comfortable saying "I don't know yet."

  • Clear communication.

  • Comfort around computers, websites, and web technologies.

  • Basic numeracy and confidence working with percentages.

  • Reliability.

No previous AdTech knowledge, years of experience, or certifications are required. We train the AdTech side from zero.

Preferred Background

  • Recent graduates or early career candidates from Computer Science, Software Engineering, Web Development, Programming, Information Technology, Telecommunications, Data, Engineering, or other technical fields.

  • Exposure to HTML, CSS, JavaScript, APIs, databases, or other web technologies.

  • Experience building websites, personal projects, university projects, GitHub projects, or other technical side projects.

  • Familiarity with browser developer tools and inspecting how websites work.

  • Basic spreadsheet comfort.

  • Experience troubleshooting technical problems or helping users solve technical issues.

  • Dutch language skills are considered a plus, but are not required.

None of these are strict requirements. They simply help a candidate stand out.

Interview Process

The interview process for this role consists of three stages:

  1. Initial screening: Introductory 15 minute call with a recruiter.

  2. First interview: 15 minute conversation with the Hiring Manager or TAM team.

  3. Technical test: A practical exercise to see how you approach technical problems and learn unfamiliar concepts.

Each stage is designed to assess role alignment, technical curiosity, problem solving approach, collaboration style, and long term fit, while giving clear visibility into how Refinery89 operates and what success looks like in the role.
